While brushing your teeth at least twice a day is an important part of any oral healthcare routine, flossing is just as important! It’s not the most pleasant activity, and it can be difficult to get the hang of at first, but it’s one of the best ways you can be an active participant in keeping your teeth healthy and helping to cut down on cavities. Check below to learn the best way to floss your teeth!

WHY IS FLOSSING IMPORTANT?

Flossing removes food particles and plaque from between your teeth, helping to prevent cavities, gum disease, and other oral health issues.

1. WASH YOUR HANDS

To prevent spreading bacteria.

2. WIND ABOUT 18 INCHES OF FLOSS

Onto the middle or index finger of each hand.

3. GUIDE A ONE TO TWO-INCH LENGTH OF FLOSS BETWEEN EACH TOOTH

Being sure to readjust the floss so that you’re using a clean segment of floss each time you switch teeth.

4. GLIDE THE FLOSS BETWEEN YOUR TEETH USING A ZIG-ZAG MOTION

And wrap each floss segment in a C shape around each tooth.

5. SLIDE YOUR FLOSS AGAINST EVERY TOOTH SURFACE

Front, back, right, and left, before moving on to the next tooth.
